We facilitated the first and largest ever cloud, internet, and mobile device-based citizen survey that touched over 135 million households and approximately 300,000 mobile devices. Employing a hybrid cloud environment, this infrastructure created a system of systems that pulled together legacy and new platforms to support the data collection undertaking. The volume of traffic, level of concurrency, and the scope of the security requirements posed a significant challenge in terms of balancing performance, scalability, and risk. To combat that risk, we coordinated across the stakeholder base to help develop a cutting-edge threat model for securing their hybrid cloud to aid in risk management and to develop strategies to mitigate cyber threats.
